The Piket Conventional Maize Planter can plant a variety of crops on small-scale farms of which most applied seed are maize or beans. It was not designed to be used in a no tillage environment. Soil tillage is required prior to planting.
The cost aspect of this planter is an important factor – it was designed to be affordable. The 2-row models are very popular with upcoming and smaller scale commercial farmers who plant between 5 and 50 hectares per season.
Seed and fertiliser are placed in a double row, the width of which can be adjusted.
The soil must be moderately moist when planting. Very rocky soils, very hard and dry soil and very wet soil will decrease the effectiveness of this planter. Best results are obtained with light to moderate soil cover. Very dense mulch may cause blockages.
